Why stop here

Two routes meet here. Aqabat al-Khanqah climbs west towards the Holy Sepulchre. The Via Dolorosa turns off the souq at this point.

Look for

• The alley climbing west, away from the souq.
• The Khanqah minaret above the rooftops.
• Street signs pointing two different ways.

Context

The Khanqah al-Salahiyya sits up that alley. Saladin founded it in the 1190s as a Sufi lodge. Its minaret was built in 1417 and pairs with the Mosque of Omar's.
